The Child in Your Heart

We saw this window on our way up to Portland two weeks ago. Stopped to eat in the little town of Oakland and parked right in front of this building. It's one of those sweet messages that is exactly what you need to hear at exactly the right time. A perfect attitude for spring. Inside the window is a carousel horse, you can just make out the legs and center pole. I have no idea what goes on here. The building was for lease. I can imagine a story, though, written by someone like Stephen Millhauser.

The child in my heart saw this window and grinned and giggled and pranced for the rest of the day. She didn't need much encouragement. She imagined she might become one of the characters in the story behind the window... the heavy paneled door creaked open casting a long rectangle of light across a dusty room of carousel animals and costumes... a figure shuffled from the shadows...
