My Favorite Place to Be, Just Be
Whenever I can pull away from the computer and the endless lists in the studio, I'm likely to head out to Green Wizard Garden, my sister and brother-in-law's organic farm. I'll roam the rows of flowers and vegetables, sit out by the pond for a bit, then settle into a chaise on the deck. Somewhere between the roaming, sitting, settling, I'll help prepare a meal with ingredients mostly grown just a few feet from where we eat. It's a sweet place, this little farm, nestled in a lovely valley bisected by the Applegate River. Tucked in among the vineyards and other organic farms, this farm has gorgeous views from every direction. And it's utterly peaceful and quiet. I always return recharged; emptied of all my silly concerns and filled with the sights and scents found where loving care has created such abundance and beauty. I also return with a large bag of organic veggies!
If you've been to my website, you'll know this is also the place where much of my art begins. They grow the sunflowers, zinnias and other flowers that are styled, photographed and then reconfigured to create Flowers Through a Prism. All of this art is sourced in sunshine, loving care, and kinship.
Today is one of those days when I pull away, step back from my life and wander out to Green Wizard Garden. Today, we celebrate my mom's 87th birthday. Today, we get to be with each other on a fine summer day at the farm. For me, it doesn't get any better than this.
